Giostra del Saracino - Arezzo

Obtaining from the middle ages its origin but restored only in 1931 like an historical recall of XIV century, Saracino sets competition the four district (contrade) of the tuscan city of Arezzo. Crucifera Gate, San Lorentino Gate, Santo Spirito Gate e Sant'Andrea Gate give life to "Saracino" since the week before the Giostra when in the Arezzo Dome the horses are blessed arriving to friday, when every discrict gather itself for having the propitiatory lunch.
The Saracino giostra is runned for two times a year: the last saturday of June and the first sunday of September.

Later equestrian circle, drum rolls and flags waving, the Arezzo's knights gallop with a spear on a string against an armoured automaton that it rapresents a saracen arms with a club ("Buratto King of India")trying to hit it in the proper card doing the best possible score.
Every discrict has two attemps for make the major score and having the hankered prize: "The Golden spear".
