The square of the tuscan city has rise from the end of 1200 and the century after the square was cobbled so all the population was hosted there for watching show, races of buffalo and bulls. Artistically Campo square in Siena is a unique place in the world.
The building of Campo has taken the shape of a big concave shell cobbled with red brick disposed in herringbone and it'd divided with a pattern like spokes radiating from a centre by nine travertine stripes (in honour of the Governo dei Nove that governed Siena since 1292 to 1355). On the square stands out the white marble of the Fonte Gaia by Jacopo della Quercia.
Among all the palace arrange along the perimeter of the tuscan square, oddly constructed in the lower part of it, you can find the Palazzo Comunale of Siena and from this reaching 102 meters there is the Torre del Mangia; while the other building are splendid and elegant genteel palaces. The skyline of the Campo square was designed by the Siena's govern that it was looking for level the costruction demolishing also the Santi Pietro e Paolo Church because it was jutting the line of the other palaces! However the Campo Square is also use by citizen of Siena for going to the market behind the Palazzo Comunale, for place of meeting with friends, enjoying the silence of a fresh summer night or taking the sun in the winter when the life slowes down like a lethargy.
